How it works

What you actually get

Best for: the ordinary pad change, where the discs still have thickness left in them.

Pads are the wearing part. They press against the disc, they wear down, and they get replaced — usually two or three times over the life of a set of discs.

We measure the discs while the wheels are off and tell you the actual figure against the manufacturer's minimum. If they are close to it, fitting new pads to worn discs is money wasted, and we will say so rather than take the smaller job.

Calipers get cleaned and greased at the same time, because a sticking caliper is what eats a set of pads early.

Which cars? Any make or model. The price varies with the pads your car takes, so we confirm it from the registration before you book.

What customers say

Had my Mercedes C180 in with Kaine to replace both front suspension springs. I knew that this was not an easy job on this car. Dropped the car off in the morning and it was ready that afternoon. He did an amazing job and I'll be recommending him to friends and family for any work that they need doing. 5 stars!

Had my Audi S3 in for a complete overhaul — Kaine supplied and fitted all the parts, including cam belt, water pump, a full service and a balance shaft delete. He also noticed one of my rear callipers was sticking, so recommended and fitted a new calliper and new rear discs and pads too. A 5 star service — I'll only use Kaine from now on for any mechanical work.

Exceptional experience with Kaine. Came out to me, took my car and fixed it all within two hours. Very impressed and will definitely call him if needed again. Great price.

Workshop brakes

Measured first, priced before we start

1

Tell us what it is doing

Grinding, squealing, a pulsing pedal or just a warning light — it narrows down what we are looking for before the car arrives.

2

Wheels off and measured

We measure the discs against the manufacturer's minimum and check the pads, then tell you the figures rather than an opinion.

3

You decide, with a price

Pads, or pads and discs, and what each costs on your car. Nothing happens until you have said yes.

4

Road tested before you collect

New brakes are bedded in on the road, not left for you to do. Twelve months on parts and labour.

Questions

About the Brake Pads

How do I know if I need pads or pads and discs?

By measuring, not by guessing. Discs have a minimum thickness stamped on them, and once they are near it they have to be replaced with the pads. We measure yours with the wheels off and give you the figures before anything is decided.

Is that price for the whole car?

It is for a pair — front or rear. Most cars need the fronts first because they do the majority of the braking, and the rears usually follow later rather than at the same time.

Can you do it while the car is in for a service?

Yes, and it is the sensible way round. The wheels come off for the brake inspection on a major service anyway, so doing both in one visit saves a second lot of labour.

How often do brakes need doing?

Pads typically last between 25,000 and 40,000 miles, and discs about twice that — but town driving wears them far faster than motorway miles, so mileage alone is a poor guide. Any service we do includes a brake check, which is how most people find out.

Do you use manufacturer parts?

We fit quality branded parts as standard, and genuine manufacturer parts if you would rather. Tell us which when you book and we will price both.
