Cam belt service
Why your cam belt deserves attention
This is just as important as your regular servicing, and every engine has its own belt life. Because of the job the belt does, neglect and failure are catastrophic and can be extremely expensive.
A worn belt is difficult to spot. As it degrades, rubber shearing — the belt falling away in strips — is a common occurrence, and that often leads straight to engine failure. When that happens the vehicle either ends up in the breakers or faces a repair bill far beyond the cost of replacing the belt on schedule.
Not sure if yours has one?
Plenty of engines use a chain instead, which does not need replacing on a schedule. Send us the registration and we will tell you which yours has, when it is due, and what it would cost — even if the answer is that you have nothing to worry about.

Had my Mercedes C180 in with Kaine to replace both front suspension springs. I knew that this was not an easy job on this car. Dropped the car off in the morning and it was ready that afternoon. He did an amazing job and I'll be recommending him to friends and family for any work that they need doing. 5 stars!
Had my Audi S3 in for a complete overhaul — Kaine supplied and fitted all the parts, including cam belt, water pump, a full service and a balance shaft delete. He also noticed one of my rear callipers was sticking, so recommended and fitted a new calliper and new rear discs and pads too. A 5 star service — I'll only use Kaine from now on for any mechanical work.
Exceptional experience with Kaine. Came out to me, took my car and fixed it all within two hours. Very impressed and will definitely call him if needed again. Great price.

Servicing FAQs
What's the difference between a service and an MOT?
An MOT is a legal test that says the car met minimum safety standards on the day. It is not a health check and it will not change your oil. A service is preventative — it replaces the things that wear out so the car does not fail in the first place. You need both, and doing them in one visit is the cheapest way.
How long does a service take?
A minor is around two hours and a major is about half a day. A cam belt is usually most of a day. If you need the car back by a certain time, say so when you book and we will work to it.
Why does the price vary between cars?
Mostly oil specification. Some engines take four litres of ordinary oil, others take nine litres of a long-life grade that costs several times as much. Filters and plugs vary too. Send us the registration and we will give you the exact price rather than a from-figure.
My car is still under warranty — can you service it?
Yes. Block exemption legislation means you are free to use an independent garage without invalidating the manufacturer warranty, provided the servicing schedule is followed and correct parts are used. That is precisely what we do.
Do you use genuine parts?
We use parts that meet or exceed the manufacturer's specification, and genuine parts where the job calls for them. We will always tell you which is going on your car and why.
Can you collect the car?
Usually, yes, locally around Milton Keynes. Ask when you book and we will tell you what we can do on the day you want.
