How it works
Best for: standard cars and vans where the owner wants the engine to feel like it should have from the factory.
Manufacturers write one map for every market a model is sold in — different fuel quality, different climates, different emissions targets. A Stage 1 file is written for your car in this country, which is where the headroom comes from.
We read your existing map off the ECU, save it, and write a new one to suit the engine, the gearbox and how you actually use the car. Nothing on the vehicle is modified, and nothing about the file is a template with your registration typed into it.
It comes back on the road for a test before you collect it. If you do not like how it drives, your original map goes back on at no cost — that is not a goodwill gesture, it is the point of saving it.
Which cars? Turbocharged petrol and diesel engines see the biggest gain. Naturally aspirated engines gain less, and we will tell you that before you book rather than after.
Warranty: 12 months on the file, with your original map kept indefinitely.
What customers say
Had my Mercedes C180 in with Kaine to replace both front suspension springs. I knew that this was not an easy job on this car. Dropped the car off in the morning and it was ready that afternoon. He did an amazing job and I'll be recommending him to friends and family for any work that they need doing. 5 stars!
Had my Audi S3 in for a complete overhaul — Kaine supplied and fitted all the parts, including cam belt, water pump, a full service and a balance shaft delete. He also noticed one of my rear callipers was sticking, so recommended and fitted a new calliper and new rear discs and pads too. A 5 star service — I'll only use Kaine from now on for any mechanical work.
Exceptional experience with Kaine. Came out to me, took my car and fixed it all within two hours. Very impressed and will definitely call him if needed again. Great price.
Workshop re-mapping
Send us the registration and we confirm what can safely be gained on your exact engine, and what it costs, before you book.
The car is checked over before a single line is written. If something needs attention first we tell you, rather than mapping over it.
The factory file is read off and archived before the new one goes on, so the car can be put back to standard at any point.
We drive it, then you drive it. If it is not what you wanted, the original goes straight back on.
Works well with
Each of these covers something the others cannot. Fitted in the same visit they cost less than booking them separately — ask and we will price the combination.

Servicing
The full annual service. Every filter, a 40 point safety check and the wheels off to inspect the brakes properly.

Servicing
The one job where leaving it too long writes the engine off. Replaced to the manufacturer's schedule, water pump included where sensible.
Questions
Yes, and we would say that even if it cost us the job. A re-map is a modification and not declaring it gives an insurer grounds to refuse a claim. Most will note it for a small premium change; we will give you the figures in writing to send them.
Not when it is done properly. We stay inside the tolerances the components were designed for, which is why a healthy engine takes a Stage 1 without complaint. An engine that is already tired is a different conversation, and the health check is there to have it before we start.
At any time. Your original map is saved before we write anything and we keep it on file, so putting the car back exactly as it was is a short job rather than a rescue mission.
Yes. A re-map is a modification, and not declaring it gives an insurer grounds to refuse a claim. Most note it for a modest premium change, and we will put the details in writing for you to forward.
No. It is an MOT failure and illegal for road use. If your emissions equipment is faulty we will help you fix it properly instead.
