How it works

What you actually get

Best for: vans, motorway commuters and anyone doing serious mileage in a diesel.

An economy file is not a detuned car. It moves the torque lower in the rev range so the engine does the same work with less throttle and fewer gear changes — which is where real-world fuel is actually spent.

The gain depends far more on how you drive than on the file. A steady motorway commute will see the full benefit; short cold runs around town will see very little, and we will say so before you book.

It suits a working van better than almost anything else we do. Pulling away loaded is where a standard map is at its worst and where this makes the most difference.

Which cars? Diesel vans, tow vehicles and high-mileage commuters. Less worthwhile on short urban journeys.

Had my Mercedes C180 in with Kaine to replace both front suspension springs. I knew that this was not an easy job on this car. Dropped the car off in the morning and it was ready that afternoon. He did an amazing job and I'll be recommending him to friends and family for any work that they need doing. 5 stars!

Had my Audi S3 in for a complete overhaul — Kaine supplied and fitted all the parts, including cam belt, water pump, a full service and a balance shaft delete. He also noticed one of my rear callipers was sticking, so recommended and fitted a new calliper and new rear discs and pads too. A 5 star service — I'll only use Kaine from now on for any mechanical work.

Exceptional experience with Kaine. Came out to me, took my car and fixed it all within two hours. Very impressed and will definitely call him if needed again. Great price.

1

Confirm what is possible

Send us the registration and we confirm what can safely be gained on your exact engine, and what it costs, before you book.

2

Health check first

The car is checked over before a single line is written. If something needs attention first we tell you, rather than mapping over it.

3

Your original map is saved

The factory file is read off and archived before the new one goes on, so the car can be put back to standard at any point.

4

Road tested with you

We drive it, then you drive it. If it is not what you wanted, the original goes straight back on.

What people fit alongside it

Each of these covers something the others cannot. Fitted in the same visit they cost less than booking them separately — ask and we will price the combination.

Questions

About the Economy Re-Map

How much will I actually save?

On a van doing 25,000 miles a year, a 10% improvement is a few hundred pounds of diesel — so it pays for itself inside a year. On a car doing 6,000 school-run miles it will not, and we would rather tell you that now.

Will you remove the DPF or EGR to help economy?

No. Removing emissions equipment is an MOT failure and illegal for road use, and any garage offering it is telling you something about how they work. If your DPF is blocked, that is a fault to fix, not a part to delete.

Do I have to tell my insurer about a re-map?

Yes. A re-map is a modification, and not declaring it gives an insurer grounds to refuse a claim. Most note it for a modest premium change, and we will put the details in writing for you to forward.

Do you remove DPFs, EGRs or AdBlue systems?

No. It is an MOT failure and illegal for road use. If your emissions equipment is faulty we will help you fix it properly instead.
